Of course, I believe that we can all benefit from counselling. Perhaps something has changed for you and you would like a space to explore what this means. This might be the end of a relationship, a new diagnosis, job or knowledge that you have about yourself.
You might be experiencing a particularly difficult or stressful time and would like someone to hold a space where you can process some of your big feelings without judgement. We can work together to understand what resources you have available to you to manage this tricky time and to trust in your capacity to be okay and face life's challenges.
Some clients come to see me because they are feeling low or anxious and would like to feel better. They may know the cause of this but many don't. We can explore together to understand what is causing your discomfort, developing strategies to manage, process and ease your difficult feelings.
Perhaps you have a sense that some of your experiences in relationships with others were not okay. This might be with family, partners, friends or colleagues. Therapy can be an excellent place to explore these experiences and their impact upon you so that you can decide where you would like your boundaries to be. We can also unpick repeating patterns in relationships and how they are still showing up for you today; having an awareness of this means that you can choose how be different in the future.
It may be that you identify with the LGBTQIA+ community or have a disability and would like some support exploring these parts of yourself. Perhaps you want to address some of the harmful messages that you may have internalised from others about these parts of your identity. As a proudly queer, AuDHD man, I have done this work too; therapy was so important to help me feel good about being myself. It is a privilege to offer this same thing to others in my role as a therapist.
You might be feeling anxiety, dread, hopelessness or something you still cannot name about the climate crisis and would like a space to explore your feelings. I think it is important to acknowledge any feelings you are having here; they are likely proportionate to the crisis we are facing. I do not feel the aim of therapy should be to diminish these feelings. Rather, we can face these feelings together to grow your ability to sit with them. In doing this, we will open a capactiy to live your life but also to address the climate crisis in the way that you would like without feeling paralysed by your feelings about it.
I work a bit differently with each person. This is because I feel that therapy should match you, where you are and what you need. I draw upon a few different types of therapy, using the tools from each that might work best for you and what you're bringing. We can discuss this; I believe therapy should be a collaborative process where you have an equal say in how we work. Because what you need may change over time, I'll check in with you regularly to be sure that what we are doing is working for you.
Although listening is an important part of therapy, I don't feel my role is to be passive. I am curious about your experience and understanding of yourself. I will ask questions to help us both understand what is happening for you. We might explore using creativity (if that's something you would like, I know it's not for everyone) or I might gently challenge you. Everything that happens in the therapy space is to support you, your self-exploration and processing of your experiences.

I work integratively, meaning that I draw upon training from person-centred, gestalt and psychodynamic therapy to best meet your needs. We can discuss what this might look like in a free 20 minute introductory session - feel free to get in touch if this is something that you would like to do.
A first session is a little different as this will be an opportunity to hear about you and your story. We might talk about why you have decided to come to therapy and why now. It's useful to know if you have had any therapy in the past and what has and has not worked for you; this helps me to get a sense of what I can offer that you may find beneficial. We can also discuss what it is that you are hoping to get from therapy, how your life might feel different after therapy. This information can help us understand your goals but it's okay to not know and what you want and need from therapy can change.
The first session is also a time for us to look at a client agreement and answer any questions you might have; this sets out how we will work together. I'll also share information about how I keep your data safe.
